Senior Visual Designer at

Emerson - Austin, TX

Emerson Design System

  • Audited 55 conflicting style guides to create a cohesive, accessible color palette for software.

  • Standardized nearly a thousand icons in a flat style, organizing them by function and type.

  • Built a searchable icon library on SharePoint (not my first choice, but I was accommodating IT reqs), advocating for a more comprehensive component library.

  • Conducted hundreds of user interviews, design audits across products, establishing guidelines for UI elements, color, typography, and data visualization.

  • Secured team buy-in by demonstrating their products with the new design system and onboarded additional business units.

Human-Centered Design, Education, and the World

  • Joined a small, tight-knit internal consultancy team at Emerson focused on empathy-driven design.

  • Helped employees across the company improve their workflows, not just products.

  • In 2018–2019, learned multiple new industries (pharma, oil & gas) with legacy software ecosystems.

  • Knew from the start I’d be developing a design language—had to first learn the products.

  • Conducted global workshops (Florida, Colorado, Texas, India, etc.) to align teams and run design sprints.

  • Used LUMA methods, Mural, and in-person facilitation to drive collaboration and clarity.

  • Digitally transcribed workshop content into Mural for sharing and documentation.

  • Built strong cross-company relationships that proved valuable later.

  • Supported multiple products with visual and UX design using UXPin, Illustrator, and more.

  • Helped modernize legacy software and design dashboards for industrial KPIs.

  • Participated in usability testing sessions to refine and validate design decisions.

Emerson Exchange

  • Designed posters for the company’s usability testing booths at trade shows.

  • First year’s theme focused on milestones in mass communication.

  • Second year’s theme 1950s–60s advertising with creative storytelling elements.

Coronavirus Response

  • At the onset of COVID-19, helped transition the company to remote work.

  • Led workshops on virtual collaboration using Mural, Webex, Teams, etc.

  • Enabled teams unfamiliar with remote tools to adapt quickly and effectively.
